As SEACON’s growth continues, so does the investment in their people. Craig Newell, VP of Sales and Corporate Business Development believes the importance of a strong team of Business Development Managers is key to the continued growth of the business. “Having a dedicated team is really important in promoting great internal and external communication so we can better understand the ever-changing needs of our clients and innovate for the next generation of solutions” he says.
The Business Development Management team comprises of Craig Smith, Sergio Mendez, John Blair and Tom Schwinn. This team has a great range of knowledge gained by many years of experience in our markets, through a mixture of internal experience within SEACON and external to SEACON. Kevin Hall, Sales Director for SEACON Europe, comments “SEACON is always on the look-out for great talent for our business. Investing in people is important too and we don’t shy away from growing our own talent.”
Craig Smith started with SEACON Europe in 1995 aged just 17. He completed his business studies at college whilst working for SEACON. His first role was in administration and once his course was completed he became a trainee sales coordinator in 1996. His knowledge and experience steadily built, as did his links with Europe and the USA. With this new knowledge and attitude he was soon promoted to Sales Manager in 2002. With his new role of Business Development Manager Craig will continue to promote and develop the SEACON Group worldwide within the Military, Oil & Gas and Oceanographic sectors. Craig says “After nearly 20 years, I am still enjoying working with SEACON and the challenging demands and exciting prospects that my new role as Business Development Manager has brought. I am looking forward to the future and the opportunities that this role will continue to bring. I hope the next 20 years will be as enjoyable and successful as the last for both SEACON and myself.”
Sergio Mendez joined SEACON in September of 2008. He is a graduate of Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas with a Bachelors degree in Marketing and International Business. While Sergio has a primary focus on the coordination of business development activities for SEACON Advanced Products, he is also promoting the complete range of connector products developed and produced by SEACON. He works with the internal and external sales teams to ensure customer needs are met. Before joining SEACON, Sergio worked in outside sales for Tyco Electronics/Rochester Corporation promoting their electro/optical mechanical cables. Prior to that he was with Halliburton, working for the down-hole Wireline tools division focusing in Latin America. He is also a member of the Subsea Fiber Optic Monitoring steering committee (SEAFOM). Part of their responsibility is to create and document the standards for future subsea architecture.
John Blair recently joined SEACON as Oil & Gas Business Development Manager, Americas. John is from College Station, Texas and joined the US Army straight from high school. Working on a variety of helicopters he became the crew chief on a UH-1H (Huey). After leaving the Army he ran his own business in the automotive repair sector before joining CGG Veritas where he held a number of positions building his experience in areas such as seismic cable repair, umbilical repair, fiber optic lead-in terminations and management of the equipment for a fleet of 8 vessels. In 2008 John joined Bennex (now Siemens) as subsea Sales Manager for upstream electrical and fiber optic distribution, sensing as well as other products. John has a strong background in the Seismic market as well as the Oil & Gas subsea market making him the perfect fit at SEACON.
Tom Schwinn joined SEACON in December of 2013. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Tom is an accomplished Engineer and Project Manager. Most recently Tom worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat designing and building nuclear submarines for the US Navy. Tom’s area of expertise at GDEB was sonar systems. His extensive knowledge of outboard cables and connectors make him a great fit at SEACON. Tom’s overall knowledge of the defense procurement process will help SEACON to solidify and expand its defense side of the business. Tom has been married to his wife, Lauren, for more than 20 years and has one son, Eben. In his leisure time he enjoys playing golf and fishing.
