Successful Requalification of Prestigious NAVSEA S9320 – AM – PRO-020 /MLDG Approved Vendor Certification

SEA CON® Brantner & Associates, Inc., is pleased to announce the recertification of NAVSEA S9320-AM-PRO-020/MLDG following a successful re-qualification audit. The US Navy’s Submarine Maintenance Engineering, Planning and Procurement (SUBMEPP) department were invited by SEA CON® to audit the new PRO 020 molding facility created at the factory’s new location in El Cajon, California. This certification award means that SEA CON® El Cajon continues to be an approved vendor for the fabrication, molding and inspection of outboard cable assemblies and components built for the US Navy in accordance with the NAVSEA Technical Manual (PRO 020). SEA CON Global New Product Developments

SEA CON® Global Production has developed a high power version of its ALL-WET connector range for a special underwater naval application. The AWO-3#8w/G has a ground pin which makes contact prior to the line pins and breaks contact last upon de-mating. In addition, this connector incorporates a ball grip and diver index to ease mating and de-mating by gloved divers. This design is rated to 500 VDC at 50 amps (dependent on cable) with a pressure rating of 10,000 psi.

Several other new product developments have also taken place in recent months, these include the introduction of a ‘pull release’ (grip) to some standard connector ranges. This new feature currently available in the Micro WET-CON and RMG (Rubber Molded) series has been incorporated to ease de-mating of inline connectors. We offer an additional epoxy reinforcement layer within many of our rubber connectors to make them even more robust. This feature can be specified with or without the ‘pull release’ (grip). Please contact SEA CON® for details.

Another successful development is a new version of the 24 way inline ALL-WET connector produced for a special US military application. Manufactured in either neoprene or hypalon and utilizing smaller brass and gold plated contacts, he AWP-24#16-MP/FS also houses a large stainless steel guide pin for ease of mating. The robust AWP body enables this connector to be molded onto larger diameter cables. Suitable for a variety of underwater applications including hydrophones, this connector has a pressure rating of 10,000 psi and a current rating of 13amps with an insulation resistance of 1 Gohms @ 500 VDC.

Other new products include a penetrator harness designed to heat and control temperatures within a diving suit. The MAW 4 way (ALL-WET miniature hermaphroditic) connector body houses an electronic control board and incorporates an AWO and AWP connector and ‘special’ MAW-2-HC connectors that have a flat key to avoid a misconnection and a short circuit in the system. A hose barb allows installation onto customer specified hoses. This penetrator harness has a temperature rating of -4 degrees C to 60 degrees C and a pressure rating of up to 2,500 psi (for higher pressure ratings please contact SEA CON®.

Exhibition Update

The SEA CON® Group has exhibited at a number of events this year including Underwater Intervention in New Orleans, USA back in January and Oceanology International held during March in London, UK. More recently the Group exhibited at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) held in Houston, Texas, USA during May. This was a particularly busy show for the Group with attendee numbers up on last year despite current, difficult economic times. As the Group continues to focus on new business opportunities within the global Renewable Energy market, SEA CON® exhibited at the AWATEA (Aotearoa Wave & Tidal Energy Association) conference held in Wellington, New Zealand during April. This was a successful event for the Group with many more industry related conferences/exhibitions being planned for 2010/11. Further exhibitions for the Group this year include the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) in Denver, Colorado, USA and the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) exhibition in Stavanger, Norway both being held in August and Oceans in Seattle, Washington, USA in September and Euronaval, Paris, France during October.
